Sidewalk Trees
Urban environments are often seen as symbols of human ambition and control. However, they are inherently temporary and must constantly adapt. Through each photograph, the 'Sidewalk Trees' series explores how urban spaces, seemingly symbols of human control, are ultimately fragile and forced to comply with organic change.
By documenting these scenes, I highlight nature's quiet defiance, reminding us that our cities are transient, reactive, and ultimately not truly built to coexist with life's unpredictable, slow evolution. I end the series on a nondescript tree unconstrained by man-made con-structs. Its the only one I chose to photograph under natural light.
My work explores the fragile balance between human infrastructure and the unstoppable forces of nature. In this project, I document trees outgrowing and disrupting urban pavements in Braga, reflecting on the clash between the rigid, short-term mindset of urban planning and the enduring adaptability of organic growth. I use meticulous framing and flash to emphasize the textures and tensions at the points where human control meets natures persistence.
